Awareness actions for Olot students about the problems of American Crayfish
Different actions about catching American Crayfish will take place in Olot with young students during next summer
The LIFE Potamo Fauna and the Centre de Reproducció del Cranc de Riu Autòcton in Olot have organized various activities to raise awareness of the problems of the American Crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). In particular from 13 to 16 June, 140 students of the Institut Bosc de la Coma in Olot, visited in different groups each day, the center and participated in American Crayfish catches. The students who participated were 1st ESO. Each day consisted of an explanation of the problems of crayfish in charge of the technical astacifactory, Miquel Macias and Fina Torres, as well as the operation of the facilities and purpose. This took place in the same astacifactory, with a subsequent visit to the same. Then students moved to the bridge to catch American Crayfish at the “Pont de Cudella” with handles and other tools.
Moreover, during this July different visits and crayfish catching activities with youth summer camps in Olot will take place, specifically on 12, 18, 20 and 27 July.
