07/09/2017

This week, the first three baby European Pond Turtle (Emys orbicularis) of this season have been born at the Albera Tortoise Reproduction Center (CRT) in Garriguella. This autumn is expected that about a hundred will hatch, and they will be released, later, in their natural habitat.

The CRT facilities, thanks to the LIFE Potamo Fauna project, have experienced growth and improvement, which allowed the construction of 31 new breeding ponds for the turtles. The Emys orbicularis, born in the last three years in this center, have been released in different areas of the Ter River in order to recover its population, which was almost disappeared. So far, in the Ter river, up to 160 individuals have been reintroduced.
