C.12 – Control of invasive fish species in Banyoles Lake

There will be continued elimination of the main species of invasive fishes found in Banyoles Lake: Largemouth bass, sun fish, carp, perch and luciperca, among others. This elimination will be based on a combination of three types of techniques: electric fishing on the coast, large networks pierced in the center and bottom of the lake and large traps located along the lake edge. During the fishing activities a selection of individuals will be done, so that the invasive fishes will be killed directly, while the native fish be returned immediately to the environment.

EXPECTED RESULTS

The main aims is to decrease the density and biomass of the main species of exotic fish in Lake Banyoles (25% minimum), especially predators such as black bass and luciperca.
