C.6 – Breeding in captivity of native Crayfish Austropotamobius pallipes
The captive breeding of Austropotamobius pallipes will take place at the Center for Reproduction of native crayfish in the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park (PNZVG). Located in an old farm in Olot, is in operation since 2004. It has multiple tanks of various sizes in which breeding adults, separating populations depending on the basin of origin. These facilities stocks remain independent populations of the basins of the rivers Ter and Muga. Specifically, keep lines with different genetic haplotypes from each of these basins, most notably population of the basin of the Muga for their genetic characterization altogether.
Annually, the production unit is around 1,000 copies. But the planned improvements to the facilities, consisting of the installation of filters and other devices to minimize the effect of Prophylaxis on Saprolegnia in adults, will allow to increase this number significantly.
EXPECTED RESULTS
Obtaining a minimum of 5,000 youth throughout the project, which will be aimed at strengthening the operations of the population of the species.
