D.3 – Monitoring of Barbus meridionalis and other Unio elongatulus guests fishes and invasive fishes
The main aim is to monitor populations of Mediterranean Barbel (Barbus meridionalis) and other guests fish of naiads, and will be made according to the protocol written to indicate this effect in action A2. This standardized protocol consist of previous prospecting of existing native fish populations and the further prospect of strengthening areas for new populations.
The monitoring will allow the composition of the fish community in each actuation area and establish their relative abundance indices of abundance throughout the project. We will also analyze the demographic structure of each stage of sampling. All this information will assess the need for reinforcements population. This monitoring data will also help for the preparation of protocols for reinforcement population. The sampling will be done once a year by electric fishing, preferably in late summer. However, for those areas where naiad guest fish translocations have been made, additional sampling can be done with more frequency.
Another type of monitoring is referred to invasive fish in BanyolesLake. This action also has its corresponding protocol to determine how it will monitor these populations from the record catches using electric fishing and studying their abundance and demographic structure.
