E.5 – Specific media campaign to prevent the introduction of zebra mussels and new species of decapod and invasive turtles in the basins of the rivers Ter and Muga
The introduction of invasive species is a major threat to the conservation of native species and ecosystems in general. Freshwater systems are especially vulnerable to this threat. In addition, for the most fragile, freshwater systems, are particularly disturbed by these introductions. Through this action a specific media campaign will be developed, to prevent the introduction of zebra mussels and new species of decapod or invasive turtles, among other invasive species in the basins of the rivers Ter and Muga, who later could penetrate the spaces that make up the scope of the project Potamo Fauna, directly affecting the target species of this project.
The campaign will consist of:
- Publication of a leaflet on invasive species, the serious ecological and economic problems caused, most problematic invasive species (zebra mussels and crayfish species are outstanding) and the introduction of preventive measures. The leaflet will be available in paper format, 6,000 units, and digital
- Placement of posters in hotspots with an explanation of this type of fauna, with information about the specific problems associated with the introduction of these species. At least 6 panels on zebra mussels will installed, located in reservoirs and other navigation points, 5 posters on decapod exotic in areas of intensive fishing and 6 posters on exotic turtles in riverine areas with high population density
- Talks with specific groups play an important role in preventing the introduction of these species: tourism companies engaged in fishing and navigation, resorts and marinas, canoeing or kayaking clubs, fishing boats patterns, etc.
- Presence in contests and fishing competitions, canoeing competitions, etc., to develop information work
