LIFE Potamo Fauna inaugurates the exhibition to introduce people about how to contribute to preserve species and fauna

It will be touring for two years around various municipalities in the basins of the Ter and Muga and there will be the possibility of guided tours

The exhibition "Conservation of river fauna of Community interest in the Natura 2000 network sites of the Ter, Fluvià and Muga river basins" started on Friday 6 November at Sant Gregori, with the presence of students of 5th degree of primary of the school Agustí Gifre, the school of Sant Gregori municipality, who have made a guided tour. This exhibition consists of 14 panels and  will be traveling until the end of 2017. It has been carried out in the framework of the European LIFE Potamo Fauna. The exhibition aims to inform the actions carried out in the project to present the different species of fauna that want to preserve our rivers, as well as raise awareness about the danger of invasive species.

The 14 panels incorporate very visual content, graphics, word games and links through QR codes. It is aimed at all ages and there will be the possibility of guided tours lasting between 50 minutes and an hour. The exhibition will transfer to municipalities, schools, museums, etc. for free. It is made with a structure that allows it to mount and dismount easily, and mount it in its entirety or by themes. A minimum of 75 exhibitions will be provided.

The exhibition deals with the native crayfish, invasive ones, the naiad Unio Elongatulus, the zebra mussel, native and exotic fish, native and exotic turtles and amphibians and little water snails. At the moment, the exhibition will be at Sant Gregori until the 12th of November. From 13 to 15 November it will be the Firestany in Banyoles.

LIFE Potamo Fauna is a project that preserves endangered species such as the White-clawed Crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes), the Naiad Unio elongatulus and the European Pond Turtle (Emys orbicularis). The project works during four years in 11 areas of the Natura 2000 Network all along the region.

The project (2014-2017) as a whole has a budget of 1,900,262 euros, 50% funded by the European Union. It is implemented and coordinated by the Consorci de l’Estany in conjunction with the Department de Territory i Sostenibilitat, Forestal Catalana, Amics de les Tortugues de l’Albera and Universidad del País Vasco-Euskal Herriko Unibertsitabea, with also the financial participation of Diputació de Girona, Ajuntament de Banyoles, Ajuntament de Porqueres, Consorci Esportiu de l’Estany de Banyoles and Aigües de Banyoles.
