El LIFE Potamo Fauna assisted at the 8th edition of the “Jornades de Medi Natural a Girona”
The “Jornades de Medi Natural de Girona” took place on 18th and 19 March in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of the University of Girona (UdG). Four presentations on the project LIFE Potamo Fauna "Conservation of river fauna of Community interest in the Natura 2000 network sites of the Ter, Fluvià and Muga river basins" took place, by technicians of the Consorci del Ter and Consorci del'Estany. In the conference up to 130 people attended.
The talks were the following, all on March 18 afternoon:
- "Presentation of the project LIFE Potamo Fauna and creation of temporary ponds on the river Ter" by Ponç Feliu and Teia Puigvert.
- "Monitoring of amphibians on the banks of the Ter and Llémena under the LIFE project Potamo Fauna" by Iago Pérez.
- "The management of fish stocks in Lake Banyoles as a pioneer case" by Quim Pou, technical coordinator of the project of the Consorci de l’Estany.
- "Recovery of the River Ter pond turtle (LIFE Potamo Fauna)" by Carles Feo, technical project of the Consorci de l’Estany.
Since 2003, the City of Girona organizes this event every two years. In their collective organization, actively work together the University of Girona, teachers of secondary schools in the city, naturalist organizations, the Consorci del Ter, the Consorci de les Gavarres and the Departament d’Agricultura, Pesca i Medi Natural of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The workshops is a meeting place, and a reference means to disseminate all projects that have to do with the reality of nature. Participants are naturalists and people from the scientific world, but also students who have developed research, and many people from their vocational or professional fields, who have in common their love and respect for the nature and their desire to deep in the knowledge of the flora and fauna of the region.
